Time to get you snail moving behinds into the fast lane. Is that even possible? Of course it is when you’re going turbo. In conjunction with the movie release, Turbo: Super Stunt Squad the videogame is here. Will Turbo follow the same lane and equally finish out on top alongside Dreamworks picture?In Turbo the game, you’re equipped with 6  stages and a handful of objectives. After completing 25 objectives the full game will be unlocked and in your favor for Free Play. To begin however the game kicks off at Dos Bros Tacos.



turbo4These stunt performing snails are in their own way looking to be the Tony Hawk of their kind.  The objectives are all over the map from point scale to collecting to letters turbo and more. Spilled liquids on the platform will increase your speed to full turbo allowing your character to navigate and press forward to the hard to reach areas.In the bottom left corner, similar to Kung Fu Panda, there’s a fire icon that increases your speed after performing enough tricks to zoom, zoom , zoom!Mechanics are very simplistic and the game has no direct story to intrigue the players, unfortunately. After you unlock all that there is, you’ll find yourself just killing time. The main objective that kept my interest was point scoring as it was one of the more challenging and entertaining completion.



The cartoon-style gameplay awkwardly reminded of Ratatouille. Funny as it is, I was literally expecting to see that furry little mouse pop up out of nowhere. The maps are welcoming and fun to look at, just a bit weird to play with the “low to the earth” camera angle.As mentioned earlier, every 5 objectives completed will unlock the next area, but the unlocking doesn’t end there. More characters are well rested and ready to be chosen upon the elite group of snailborders. There is also different shells and more to obtain as the objectives continue.Controls are fairly simple and responsive. The music throughout the game is well placed, especially considering the audience it was created for.turbo3Turbo: Super Stunt Squad will be fun for the moment for plenty of children that are interested. While reviewing the title, I gave my two children an individual opportunity to give the game a shot. Their takeaways were the “cool-looking “ environments and characters. They had issues right out of the gate trying to tackle all of the objectives at once, but performing the stunts were not an issue.


At the MSRP it’s available for, Turbo makes a pretty decent game. Just don’t expect any races on the track as a grand finale.

Racing games give players the chance to defy the speed limit and push their virtual vehicles to its absolute limit. Some racing games include a boost mechanic to blaze past the competition in flaming glory and Fireburst is one such game. But be warned, too much heat and your need for speed may just cost you the race.
This arcade racer has 4 modes to choose from in single-player: Quick Race, Fireburst Racing League, Race, and Destruction. As the name states, Quick Race allows you to jump right into the action, Fireburst Racing League is a series of challenges for you to complete to unlock more characters and vehicles which doesn’t really add anything to the core experience, Race allows you to choose your character, car, and track, and Destruction is a demolition derby.


fireburst 1Every car falls under one of four Special abilities that grant your car offensive capabilities, all of which is activated by boosting. The boost mechanic is the most interesting aspect in the game. You have a meter on the left hand side of the screen that you must keep an eye on because if you boost for too long you explode!
Every time you boost your car emits flames from its exhausts, building up the meter indicating that you’re being cooked alive inside a metal deathtrap!  This gives Fireburst a nice twist though, balancing speed with tactics, but this can become frustrating, even infuriating as initially you will more than likely blow yourself up multiple times.


Destruction ends up being the poor man’s Twisted Metal because of the limited weapons, or in this case, lack thereof. Using the aforementioned boost-triggered abilities you have to be in close proximity to do any sort of damage and in the end it just turns into deadly bumper cars. This mode for the game could’ve worked fine if it simply implemented ranged attacks or projectiles, especially when other games like Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart utilizes both close and far ranged combat perfectly.

I’ll have to admit that Fireburst looks really good. Witness gorgeous locales as you race through canyons, nighttime refineries, and airplane graveyards, each with its own sense of personality and life. The controls are easy to pick up and works without a hitch, but underneath the beauty of the tracks are invisible walls and weird physics that can send your car flying, thankfully this was an extremely rare occurrence. The soundtrack consists of an assortment of rock music that fits into the theme well enough, but the one thing that will give your blood a boil is the characters incessant need to spout ridiculous and annoying taunts which luckily be muted.
I wanted to say something about the online multiplayer, but whenever I attempt to join a game I can never connect. I suppose no one is even playing online. Regardless, I fireburst 3invited a few of friends to test out local multiplayer, and while enjoyable, I noticed that they don’t add in AI racers to fill in the gap. If there were active players to race against online or maybe they fix whatever is causing this difficulty to connect then the multiplayer would be a huge selling point due to how much fun me and my friends had.

Fireburst takes a tired-and-true mechanic and put its own twist to it. It pays off as the constant threat of causing your own car to combust in flames is intense at times, forcing you to use you boosts and Special attacks wisely. But in the end Fireburst is a bare bones racer that offers little content in solo and multiplayer. If they had an appropriate Death Race-esque story to accommodate the lack of single-player content then there would be incentive to continue coming back, and the empty online multiplayer leaves only split-screen. The game is beautiful and the controls are solid, but the overall game is a disappointing experience when it had the clear potential to become something great.

Fireburst is a paragon for how a unique and terrific concept can be spoiled with bad execution. Like your traditional racing game, the player competes against NPCs or other players to be first across the finish line. However, there is an additional twist.

All vehicles possess a boosting apparatus that shoots fire in all directions. This mechanism can also be used to destroy opposing vehicles that are in the line of fire. However, holding down the boost for to long can result in an overheat of your vehicle, blowing it to pieces. Unfortunately, the numerous amount of bugs and the poor layout of maps render the game nearly unplayable.

At the main menu, the player has the option to play on the single or multiplayer modes, and may also toggle through the options and leaderboards. Single player offers a variety of game modes which include Quick Race, the Fireburst Racing League, Custom Race, Destruction, and a tutorial.

Fireburst lacks a campaign and any story whatsoever, but are instead replaced with the game’s Fireburst Racing League. In this mode, players are given challenges to beat, in order to unlock new characters, cars etc. Many of these challenges were frustratingly hard, and retrying over and over again is only entertaining for so long. And don’t get me started on the destruction mode. The only person who gets hard playing destruction is Michael Bay. In this game mode, players aimlessly drive around an inclosed circle and attempt to destroy opposing vehicles using the boosting mechanism. What may sound like quality entertainment is actually empty action with a lack of initiative.
